Rewari, September 5

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with Haryana ministers Dr Banwari Lal and Om Prakash Yadav, laid the foundation stone of three development projects and also performed “bhumi pujan” of two other projects, girls’ hostel and sports stadium, at Indira Gandhi University (IGU) here on Sunday.

Significantly, the “bhumi pujan” of the two projects was carried out over four years after the laying of their foundation stones. The CM had laid their foundation in May 2017, but the projects failed to take off reportedly due to the lack of funds. Prof SP Bansal was the Vice Chancellor of the IGU at that time, but now, present Vice Chancellor Prof SK Gakhar arranged the funds and paved the way for their execution.

Union Minister Rao Inderjit too was to attend the function, but could not come. Rao’s media coordinator said he had an important meeting in Delhi today.

Khattar, speaking on the occasion, said an “Education Festival” would be celebrated across the state up to September 17, birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched several policies in respect of teachers. The new education policy, introduction of teachers’ awards at the national level and skill development were some of them, he added.

Earlier, VC Prof SK Gakhar presented a report about the work carried out at the IGU during his stint. He said several new courses were introduced, 25 laboratories were set up and degrees distributed among thousands of students who passed out before his tenure.

“The CM laid the foundation stone of Extension of Library, residential floors and CV Raman Science Block, besides unveiling the university master plan, Alumni Association Act and model of waste water purification and production of electricity,” the VC added.
