Two robbers shoot man during break-in at village in Sirsa

Two men tried to rob a house at Jagmalwali village in the Kalanwali area of Sirsa district on Wednesday. When family members resisted, the robbers shot one of them, leaving him seriously injured. He has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, who works as a government schoolteacher.

Gurmeet’s uncle Manpreet Singh said around 3 am, the robbers jumped over the house wall. Inside, Gurmeet’s uncle Bhagh Singh and his wife were sleeping in one room while Gurmeet, his wife and their child were in another. The robbers entered Bhagh Singh’s room after noticing that the door was open.

The robbers, armed with pistols, threatened Bhagh Singh to stay quiet, but he raised an alarm, hearing which Gurmeet rushed into the room. Seeing him, one of the robbers shot Gurmeet directly and they ran away.

Gurmeet was severely injured and was taken to the Kalanwali community health centre. He was referred to a hospital in Bathinda, but later, he was sent to the DMC in Ludhiana. His condition remains serious.

Gurmeet’s wife is also a teacher in Punjab and they have a six-month-old child.

The Kalanwali police, led by DSP Rajeev Kumar, and officers from nearby police stations reached their house and started an investigation.
