Karnal, July 17

In a major breakthrough, the Karnal police arrested two sharpshooters on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday from Jind district who were allegedly involved in firing that took place at Meenakshi hospital in Assandh on July 8.

The police have recovered two countrymade weapons and five live cartridges from their possession. Six accused have already been arrested in this case, said the police.

The arrested sharpshooters have been identified as Mohit, alias Mohita, of Ferozabad district in UP and presently living in Ganganagar in Rajasthan, and Sobhit of Rampur under Hathras police station in UP, said Ganga Ram Punia, Superintendent of Police (SP).

Both the accused received bullet injuries and were taken to a hospital in Jind, from where Mohit was taken to PGI Rohtak.

On a tip off that two sharpshooters involved in the firing incident were coming on Nirjan-Pindara road in Jind district on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the SP constituted two teams –one led by Inspector Mohan Lal, CIA-2 incharge, and second led by Sub-Inspector Surinder.

At midnight, the police traced them, but, as per the police, they started firing at police. The police had a narrow escape, but the police vehicles got damaged in the firing. In retaliation, the police also fired at them and both the accused received bullet injuries. Both the teams apprehended the accused, who confessed the crime. They admitted that they were sent for firing at hospital by gangster Daler Kotia, the SP added.

Accused Mohit is wanted in several cases, including the murder of a petrol pump owner in Ganganagar, while Sobhit is wanted in a murder case in Hathras, said Mohan Lal, incharge CIA-2.

He told that they will be taken on police remand to know the involvement of others in this case. “A case has been registered under Sections 186, 353, 307, 34 of the IPC and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act along section 3 of PDP Act in Jind,” said the SP Punia.

Earlier on July 12, the Karnal police had arrested Harman of Safidon in Jind, Omvir of Salwan, Dalvir of Safidon in Jind and Baljinder Singh of Jalmana village in the district. Accused Baljinder was amomg the three persons who came to hospital for firing. Besides, on July, the Karnal police had arrested Sonu Sharma of Jind and Mahipal of Bharatpur in Rajasthan for providing assistance to accused. Mahipal used to share threat messages sent by gangster Daler Kotia on Facebook. He is on police remand, the SP said.
