Panipat: Two elderly women, who were sisters, were killed at the Panipat railway station when they were run over by a train on Friday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Panmeshwari Devi (78) and Lakshmi (75) of Garhi Sikanderpur village. SI Krishan Kumar, Investigation Officer, said the women had gone to attend a wedding at Mahmudpur village in Gohana and had returned on Friday by a train. They were crossing the tracks to reach the exit gate when they were run over by an express train. The bodies were handed over to their kin. TNS
Two sentenced in drugs case
Kurukshetra: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajnish Sharma has sentenced two men to three years of imprisonment each in a drugs case. The court convicted Amrik Singh, a resident of Ambala, and Gurdev Singh, a resident of Yamunanagar, on Friday. A police spokesman said on December 5, 2019, the Anti-Narcotics Cell had stopped a truck and about 10-kg churapost had been recovered. Both accused were arrested.
74 schoolbuses challaned
Faridabad: The local police have challaned 1,002 vehicles, including 74 schoolbuses, for violating traffic rules in the city in past 24 hours. A spokesperson for the district police said the challans have been issued under the road safety campaign currently underway in the city. He said a large number of buses have been challaned for not following the rules while transporting minor schoolchildren. He added that e-challans and postal challans have also been issued in this period as part of the drive. TNS
One nabbed with fake SIM cards
Gurugram: The Nuh police have arrested a man engaged in cybercrime, recovering two ATM cards and two counterfeit SIM cards from his possession. An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident. The accused has been identified as Komal Kumar, hailing from Bilaund village in Bharatpur district, Rajasthan. He was apprehended by the CIA Punhana team on Thursday while allegedly attempting to distribute counterfeit SIM cards in Punhana. OC
Man arrested with drugs
Gurugram: The Gurugram police have arrested a man with drugs and narcotics, including Dicyclomine Hydrochloride, Tramadol Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen capsules. Over 80 small boxes containing illegal substances were seized during the search of his vehicle. An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident. The accused has been identified as Praveen, a resident of Bhora Kalan village. He was arrested on Thursday. The police also seized the car. He was also wanted in an NDPS case registered in Rewari. OC
3 held in Palwal murder case
Palwal: The police have arrested three more accused wanted in the murder of Gugera village resident Jugender, who beaten to death. The police had booked 12 persons by name and 8 to 10 unidentified accused. Police spokesperson Sanjay Kumar said the three arrests on Thursday night have taken the tally of total arrests in the case to six so far. TNS
Lineman gets 3-year jail
Gurugram: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tarun Singal on Friday sentenced a lineman of the DHBVN to three years of imprisonment after holding him guilty of taking a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh in 2020. OC
