Two-time MLA Dahiya resigns from Congress
In a setback to the Congress during the peak of election campaigning, a former two-time MLA from Rai Jai Tirath Dahiya on Monday resigned from the party. He was considered a close aide of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
‘Hooda betrayed me’
Former MLA from Rai Jai Tirath Dahiya was considered a close aide of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He accused Hooda of betraying and insulting him. Dahiya has been annoyed with Hooda ever since the declaration of tickets. The Congress has fielded Jai Bhagwan Antil from the Rai constituency.
Dahiya sent his resignation to Congress state president Udai Bhan by post. He accused Hooda of betraying and insulting him. Dahiya has been annoyed with Hooda ever since the declaration of tickets. Notably, the Congress has fielded Jai Bhagwan Antil from the Rai Assembly constituency this time.
While interacting with mediapersons in Rai today, the former MLA also raised questions on Congress leaders who have been given ticket from other Assembly constituencies.
Dahiya claimed that Hooda had assured him a ticket but later, there had been some “bargaining” over it.
Dahiya alleged that both father and son had a role in getting his ticket cancelled and in humiliating him. Both of them have spoiled the party in the state.
“I will take a decision after the Assembly elections but the message has already reached his supporters that I am no longer in the Congress now,” the former MLA added.
He alleged that tickets had been distributed on monetary basis.
Dahiya said that he couldn’t tolerate the way he had been insulted. The same thing had happened to Dr Kapoor Narwal in Baroda constituency, he said.
Notably, Dahiya was elected MLA twice from Rai constituency in 2009 and 2014 and he also applied for the ticket this time. His father Rizaq Ram Dahiya had also won twice from here in 1972 and 1977.
He had won the 2014 Assembly elections by only three votes from INLD candidate Inderjeet and he also came to light when he opened the front in favour of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda against the then state president Ashok Tanwar and offered his resignation to the then national president Rahul Gandhi.
