The state government has directed Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, and Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind, to stop the process of recruitment of Assistant Professors till further orders.

Candidates were selected at Sirsa varsity

  • Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, has already conducted interviews for the recruitment of 12 Assistant Professors in various departments
  • After interviews, the names of the selected candidates were put in sealed envelopes which were expected to be opened at the Executive Council meeting on February 23
  • Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind, too, had received a similar letter. It, too, had already called the applicants for interview on February 23-24

Sources said the Higher Education Department had sent letters to the two universities calling for moratorium on the ongoing recruitment process. No reason has been cited for the move in the letters served to the universities, the sources said.

Notably, the Sirsa university has already conducted interviews for the recruitment of 12 Assistant Professors in various departments. The university had advertised these posts in 2023. After interviews, the names of the selected candidates were put in sealed envelopes which were expected to be opened in the Executive Council meeting on February 23. Now, this agenda of opening the sealed envelopes will not be taken up in the EC meeting.

Earlier also, the recruitment process was challenged in the court by some applicants. However, the court gave a go-ahead on February 16. The Registrar of the University, Dr Rajesh Bansal, confirmed that they had received a letter from the state government which directed the university to hold the recruitment process till further orders.

The Jind university, too, had received a similar letter from the Higher Education Department. It, too, had called the applicants for interview on February 23-24. Now, the process has been postponed till further orders, the sources said.

The Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind, which was formed in 2014 by the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government had about 100 posts of teaching faculty but around one third of the teaching staff has been hired on a contract basis in the absence of regular faculty. This university, too, was embroiled in a controversy in the past over allegations of irregularities in recruitment.
