Uneasy calm in Jhajjar village, cops on toes

An uneasy calm prevailed in Nikhil Vihar Colony of Issarheri village, located on the Delhi-Haryana border, even after three days of the incident in which a group of unidentified youths threatened people of the minority community of dire consequences if they don’t leave the village before Holi.

Meanwhile, a joint delegation of three organisations, including Inderjit Singh and Capt Shamsher Malik of All India Kisan Sabha; Savita and Munmun of Janvadi Mahila Samiti; and advocate Attar Singh of All India Lawyers’ Union, visited the village on Tuesday and talked to the people, who were still fear-stricken.

“We interacted with the people of both the communities, who have been living with amity and harmony. They have assured to maintain it in the face of any outside provocation. We were, however, surprised to see that even streetlights have not been installed in the village though three days have passed,” Inderjit said.

He said the Delhi Police had not tried to identify any of the miscreants who were 50 to 60 in number.

For the safety and security of residents, the delegation demanded the installation of CCTV cameras andstreetlights along with sufficient deployment of the police.
