The police have nabbed a person for causing injury to a youth in a celebratory firing at a marriage function here. A case was registered in this regard.

A police official said the accused, identified as Dharmender from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, was arrested for celebratory firing at Ravidas Dharamshala on February 20.

The victim, identified as Dalip, received bullet injuries in his thigh, following which he was rushed to hospital.

A complaint was lodged with the police, wherein the complainant highlighted negligence on part of the pistol owner. The revolver and six cartridges, of one which had been found used in the incident, had been seized. The police had registered a case under Section 110 of the BNS and Sections 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act in this regard.

The accused was sent to judicial custody after initial investigation. SP Chander Mohan said strict action would be taken in the offences or incidents related to celebratory firing. Those posing with guns or weapons on social media platforms would not be spared as well, he added.
