Days after opposition parties staged a protest in Delhi against the alleged “vote theft” in Bihar, businessman Robert Vadra, the spouse of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, on Thursday backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of discrepancies in electoral rolls and accused the Election Commission of working under political influence.
“Instead of addressing valid questions, they (EC) are asking for an affidavit. Rahul and Priyanka have already sworn oaths in Parliament while working for the public,” said Vadra, who paid obeisance at the historic Shri Nada Sahib Gurudwara on Thursday and took part in the community service.
On his own legal troubles, Vadra said he had repeatedly cooperated with the Enforcement Directorate in a case dating back two decades. Asserting his innocence, he maintained that all necessary documents had been submitted and there was “nothing to hide”. "I had gone to ED 24 times in the case that dates back to 20 years. I am residing in India and have always answered ED summons with my presence. I do not think I owe any explanations," he added.
