VC reminisces Hisar agri varsity’s role in Green & Yellow revolutions

A programme was organised to mark the 56th Foundation Day of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) here on Sunday.

Vice-Chancellor BR Kamboj inaugurated the event.

Kamboj, in his address, said the varsity had prepared a roadmap for future by taking inspiration from previous events.

“Every employee working at the university has played an important role in its achievements. In its 55-year history, the university has played an important role in food security at the state and national level,” he said, adding that the varsity contributed to Green Revolution and Yellow Revolution.

He said the university had conferred degrees on thousands of students.

He congratulated the scientists of the university for developing improved varieties of various crops yielding high production, models of integrated agricultural systems, modern agricultural methods, grafting methods of vegetable plants and disease-free plants through tissue culture techniques in the last year.

The VC called upon the scientists to develop agricultural methods that yielded higher profits at lower costs, and said, in future, the varsity needed to work on the development of stress-tolerant varieties suitable for less irrigated areas.

New diploma courses would soon be started at the university for skill development, he added.

He said the work of building two hostels was also in progress improve amenities for girl students of the university.

New startups in the agricultural sector were being promoted through ABIC and the innovations of the youth in rural areas were being promoted, he said.

The VC emphasised on the need to provide information related to weather and agricultural activities to farmers more effectively through information technology.

Registrar Dr Pawan Kumar said the university had achieved many achievements last year, and highlighted the direct recruitment of 49 scientists and officers and the promotion of about 70 scientists and 90 non-teaching staff.

Last year, more than 200 scientists participated in national and international-level training programmes and conferences. Earlier, the VC garlanded the statues of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Chaudhary Devi Lal and Dr Mangal Sein.

A renovated canteen at the administrative building of the varsity was inaugurated on the occasion.
