The police have arrested two persons for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the Surajkund area here recently. A case under the POCSO Act has been registered in this connection.
A police official said the accused, identified as Prem Pal (33), had taken the victim to a guest house on his two-wheeler on some pretext and committed the crime. The second accused, Gurung (40), has also been booked under Section 17 of the Act, as he indirectly helped Prem commit the act by not registering his name in the register of the guest house, as per the norms. The police, which registered a case on the basis of the complaint of the mother of the victim on January 18, arrested both the persons. Prem is a vegetable seller and hails from the Bareilly district of UP. Gurung, originally a resident of Nepal, has been residing in Sector 46 here and working as a guard-cum-housekeeper here.
The two-wheeler used in the crime has been recovered, it is claimed. Both the accused have been remanded to judicial custody after initial interrogation, said the police.
