Ahmed warned of severe dent to Gurugram’s image of a secular global city if the police drive continued.
Ahmed, who has written to the state DGP against alleged unfair treatment of migrants by Gurugram and Faridabad police, said that these people were being unfairly targeted and harassed under the pretext of identifying illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants.
“Look at the videos. They are being treated worse than animals. Pulled, thrashed and being thrown into vehicles and held for days together. When somebody has all valid documents like Aadhar card, then why target them? The sad part is that people who have left their native states and doing menial jobs are being targeted. We have approached the state DGP to rein in their cops or we will take to streets,” said Ahmed. It may be noted that the Gurugram police had claimed that nobody had been harassed and the videos were old and fake.
“ We are acting as per law and ensuring that nobody is harassed. There is not even a single instance of the same,” said official spokesperson of Gurugram police.
“People are being singled out on the basis of religion and language. The CM needs to step in and stop this. Haryana is not Maharashtra and we will not let it become one,” added Ahmed. He said that hundreds of minority migrants were reaching out to them for help and were desperate for leaving the city forever. Ahmed asked the CM to visit areas like South City, where Bengali families living for 20 years have fled.
