The Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) has begun relocating from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) to its newly constructed campus on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway, marking a significant transition in its operations. The shift commenced with the Vice-Chancellor Secretariat becoming operational at the newly built administrative facility.

“This is the beginning of the transition. With the shifting of the office, we hope to centralise administrative functions, improve coordination, and enhance efficiency,” said Vice-Chancellor Dr Naresh Jindal. The move was initiated following a havan ceremony, signifying an auspicious start at the new premises.

LUVAS was bifurcated from HAU in 2010 during the Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The construction of its independent campus began in 2018, and in January 2024, the Vice-Chancellor Secretariat-cum-Administrative Building was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The 1,125-acre campus, located 10 km from Hisar town, has been developed at a cost of approximately Rs 248.15 crore, with an additional Rs 95.15 crore allocated for an animal farm. The infrastructure also includes the newly established College of Dairy Sciences and Technology.

Despite the readiness of major buildings, the move has been delayed due to resistance from some employees stationed at the old HAU campus. According to sources, many staff members were reluctant to relocate due to the distance of the new site. Concerns have also been raised over incomplete sewerage systems, insufficient potable water supply, and other essential services, further stalling the transition.

Dr Jindal reassured that the relocation would be done gradually. “There will be a gradual transition of the university from HAU to the new campus. Classes will be held at the new campus from the next academic session,” he stated.
