Karnal, February 28
A day before the anticipated meeting of farmer unions from Punjab at the Shambu border to deliberate on their next course of action regarding the march to Delhi, the Kaithal police are sparing no efforts to maintain law and order.
With increased surveillance at two key checkpoints bordering Punjab, namely Sangatpura and Tatiana, the police, along with the paramilitary forces, are intensifying their presence to ensure security. While heavy police deployment is evident at these checkpoints, commuters at other checkpoints are experiencing relief as the police maintain a vigilant yet non-disruptive stance.
The decision by Punjab’s farmer unions to suspend their march until February 29 comes amid escalating tensions and the recent tragic loss of a young protester’s life at the Khanauri border.
“A crucial meeting of the unions is likely to take place on Thursday, where strategy and future course of action will be finalised,” said a farmer leader.
