Gurugram: Vigilance wing to probe case of payment to contractor despite incomplete work

The Vigilance wing of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram has been asked by the MC Commissioner, Narhari Singh Banger, to look into the allegations of releasing full payment to a contractor for an incomplete work done by him. The case is regarding the laying of new pipelines of potable water supply in Sector 9A of the city.

Left work without giving reasons

The Residents Welfare Association of the area recently complained to the MC Commissioner that the civic body had issued a tender to a local contractor in 2020 to lay new pipelines of potable water supply in Sector 9A, but he left the work incomplete without giving any reasons.

Role of MC officials under lens

The MCG authorities released full and final payment of Rs 2 crore to the contractor even as he left the work incomplete. The Vigilance wing team will also look into the role of MC officials, if any, in attesting and confirming the work done and release of payment.

The Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of the area recently complained to the Commissioner that the MC had issued a tender to a local contractor in 2020 for laying new pipelines of potable water supply in Sector 9A, but he left the work incomplete without giving any reasons.

As such, many areas have been left without the new pipelines while most of the areas are still getting potable water supply through the old pipelines. Some areas are also facing problems in the supply of potable water, the RWA alleged in its complaint.

In some areas, the RWA has further alleged that the new pipelines are not being used to supply potable water. The local RWA had written as many as 30 complaints in this regard to the MCG authorities in the past three years, but it was only after Narhari Singh Banger took over the office of the Commissioner, recently, that an inquiry was ordered.

The MCG authorities released full and final payment of Rs 2 crore to the contractor even as he left the work incomplete. The Vigilance wing team will also look into the role of MC officials, if any, in attesting and confirming the work done and release of payment.

If found guilty, a departmental action could be initiated against them. Meanwhile, an official of the MCG confirmed that a technical team of the Vigilance wing went to the Sector 9A and physically inspected the incomplete works on Wednesday and Thursday. The team members also talked to the RWA members and listened to their grievances. The visiting team has also physically inspected the length of the new pipelines so as to calculate the incomplete work left by the contractor.
