Vij: Riverbed being deepened to ensure smooth flow of rainwater in Tangri river
Haryana's Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said the depth of the Tangri riverbed is being deepened by 6ft to ensure a smooth flow of water in the river during the rainy season.
Tangri is a seasonal river and it swells during the rainy days causing flood-like situation in the colonies situated along the river.
As per the Cabinet Minister, the work to deepen the riverbed by 6 ft has started and the sand dug up from the Tangri River in Ambala Cantonment will be utilised in the Ambala Ring Road project of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Additionally, the Tangri River embankment is being strengthened and elevated up to Jagadhri Road at a cost of Rs 2.67 crores.
Anil Vij said an MoU was signed between the Irrigation Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Municipal Council, Ambala Sadar, for the project, ensuring that the extracted sand from the riverbed would be used in the ongoing Ambala Ring Road project. By deepening the riverbed, water will flow smoothly during the rainy season, providing protection to thousands of residents in dozens of nearby colonies. The work will be completed before the monsoon.
Vij said the narrow sections of the Tangri River in Ambala Cantonment will be widened to ensure an uninterrupted flow of rainwater. He said instructions had been given to the Irrigation Department and a proposal sent to the government for approval, with work expected to commence soon.
He further said the work to strengthen and elevate the Tangri River embankment towards Rampur-Sarsehri was progressing. The project is being expedited to ensure completion before the monsoon season.
Vij announced that the Tangri Bundh Road would soon be connected to the National Highway via Ghasitpur Railway Crossing. The new road will benefit residents of Shahpur, Machhonda, Ghasitpur, Sector 32-34 and those travelling to the new grain market on the NH, making their commute easier and more convenient. The project was expected to be completed in the coming days.
Vij said the widening of Tangri Dam Road was in progress. The road would be widened by 6 ft, improving convenience for drivers. Additionally, streetlights will be installed along the widened road, with work already initiated from the Mahesh Nagar Pump House side.
