Chandigarh, May 17

‘Gramin chowkidars’ (watchmen) in the state will now be entitled to Employees Provident Fund (EPF). Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal in this regard.

A government spokesperson said the watchmen would be given the benefit of EPF at the rate of 12 per cent.

In all, 7,017 ‘gramin chowkidars’ will benefit from the government’s decision. The exchequer will bear a financial burden of about Rs 7.07 crore per annum.
