Hisar, February 11

Residents of Juglan village, located about 2 km from the National Highway-52 (Hisar-Chandigarh-highway), demanded a cut in the divider to give passage to vehicles for the Juglan-Dhansu link road to the main highway towards Hisar town.

In the absence of the connection to the approach road of the village, the villagers have to travel in the wrong lane for about 1.5 km to reach the right lane on the highway risking their lives.

Ajay Kumar, sarpanch representative of Juglan village, said they have been taking up their demand with the district administration for a long time. But there has been no concrete assurance from the administration so far. “We have submitted a representation to Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and also held meetings with the Deputy Commissioner. The villagers are upset with the negligent attitude of the authorities concerned.”

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is the authority concerned for giving a connection to approach roads on the main highway. The NHAI has given a cut in the divider in the highway about 500 behind the Juglan-Dhansu approach road towards Barwala town. Most of the motorists coming from the Juglan-Dhansu approach road take the wrong side to travel about 1.5 km to get to the main highway. Anoop Kumar, a resident of Juglan village, said they had been facing inconvenience for a long time. The village sarpanch said the villagers had also threatened to stage a dharna in support of their demands. “I have told the villagers to not resort to dharna as the village panchayat is taking up the matter with the authorities. But, it seems that the patience of the villagers is running out,” he said. An official of the NHAI said the issue was taken up at the meeting of the district administration recently. “The matter is under consideration,” the official said.
