Vintage car rally begins in Gurugram

The 21 Gun Salute Concours d’Elegance car rally, which was flagged off from the India Gate, arrived in Gurugram on Friday. The event, inaugurated by Rao Narbir Singh, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Government of Haryana, showcases over 125 rare vintage cars and 50 vintage motorcycles from India and across the world.

The exhibits will be in Gurugram for two more days. Majority of these vintage are heirlooms of erstwhile Indian royalty. Among the prized exhibits are the 1939 Delahaye (Figoni et Falaschi), 1903 De Dion Bouton (the oldest in the Concours), 1917 Ford Model T Roadster, 1935 Buick 90L (Ex-Ayodhya) and 1935 Cadillac.

This year’s event also celebrates 120 years of Rolls-Royce through a special tribute showcasing nine handpicked Rolls-Royce models, including the 1922 Silver Ghost Limo, 1926 Silver Ghost Tilbury Sedan, 1929 P1 Sedan DeVille and the 1936 P3 Landaulette by Barker.

The 2025 edition has drawn participation from some of the most eminent collectors and distinguished royal families, including Yohan Poonawalla, Viveck Goenka, Diljeet Titus, and Jimmy Tata.

Madan Mohan, chairman and managing trustee, 21 Gun Salute Heritage Trust, said, “The 21 Gun Salute Concours d’Elegance is more than just an exhibition; it is a tribute to India’s glorious motoring heritage. By bringing together the finest automobiles, passionate collectors and global connoisseurs, we are reinforcing India’s standing on the world stage of historic automobile conservation. Our goal is to inspire future generations to value and preserve these magnificent rolling works of art.”

“Haryana was once at the top when it came to tourism in India, but it has suffered in last few years. With events such as the 21 Gun Salute, we hope to see Gurugram becoming the tourism capital of state,” said Rao. — TNS
