The crime branch of the local police has arrested a criminal wanted in various cases of cattle smuggling, robbery and attempt to murder. He had been carrying a reward of Rs 5,000.
DSP (Crime) Manoj Verma said the accused, identified as Shakeel, was nabbed during a joint operation of the teams of the CIA and police on February 7 following a raid carried out on the basis of inputs.
He said the accused, who was a gang leader, was wanted in around 40 cases registered against him in several police stations of Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana for his involvement in criminal activities related to cow smuggling, murderous attack and robbery. A reward of Rs 5,000 was announced by the state police as he had been absconding for long.
Earlier, the local police had arrested Nadeem, alias Landi, a resident of Kot village in Pehchanka village on January 4.
His investigation had led to Shakeel’s arrest. The police had seized illicit weapons from him that had been sold by the Shakeel.
The police official said they were looking for Shakeel for many months as it was him who had provided illegal weapons to Nadeem and had been operating the gang involved in various crimes.
He said while all police stations had been informed about his arrest, the accused was sent to judicial custody after initial interrogation on Sunday. A probe was still on to reveal the network involving such criminals.
