Wanted in firing case, 2 held after encounter in Sonepat

The Sonepat police arrested two wanted suspects after a brief encounter near Gangana village in the wee hours on Saturday. One of the miscreants sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. Both were reportedly hiding in Gangana after shooting at two youngsters in Gannaur on Friday night.

The injured accused has been identified as Rohit, alias Ganju, of Gangana village, while the other accused has been identified as Ankush of Nizampur. Both were living in the Gandhi Nagar area of Gannaur.

Inspector Ajay Dhankar, In-charge, Special Anti-Gangster Unit, Sector-7, in his complaint to the Baroda police, said he and his team had been searching for the accused. He received a tipoff that the accused would be coming to Gohana on a motorcycle from Gangana.

On the Gangana-Butana road, the police team spotted the two accused, who, after seeing the police, moved toward Butana.

The complainant immediately informed Inspector Bir Singh, In-charge, CIA-1; and SI Mukesh, In-charge, Gannaur crime unit.

When the police teams jointly gheraoed the accused on the Jind-Gohana highway bridge, one of the accused, who was sitting pillion on a motorcycle, opened fire upon the police. The other accused, who was driving the motorcycle, switched to a service lane. However, both the accused fell down after the motorcycle slipped.

The miscreants attempted to get up and flee as the police tried to stop them. The accused then pointed pistols at the police team.

The accused again opened fire on the police. In retaliation, Dhankar, the complainant, opened fire, causing the accused to sustain a bullet injury on his leg.

The team immediately nabbed the miscreant sitting pillion and recovered his pistol, while Inspector Bir Singh and his team nabbed the second accused. The injured miscreant was admitted to BPS Medical College for Women at Khanpur Kalan.

Following the complaint, the Baroda police have registered a case against both the accused under various sections of the BNS, and begun a probe into the matter. Dhankar said two 9-mm pistols, 10 cartridges and a motorcycle had been recovered from the possession of the accused. One of the accused, Rahul, had a history of crime, with several criminal cases on charges such as murder and attempt to murder registered against him at various police stations, Dhankar said.
