Faridabad, February 17
Suhani Bhatnagar (19), who worked as a child artiste in Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal, was cremated here today.
A resident of Sector 17 here, Suhani had been admitted to AIIMS about 10 days ago after health complications following a fracture in her leg.
Her parents Puneet Bhatnagar and Pooja revealed that she had developed a lump in one hand in January and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Delhi. Her condition deteriorated after the swelling spread to the other hand, resulting in muscle inflammation in her body. She died when her lungs stopped working after severe contraction in the body.
Suhani is survived by her parents, a younger brother aged 17 and a grandfather who lives with them.
She was pursuing a journalism course. "My child was an all-rounder, and this was perhaps why she was selected for Babita's role in Dangal," said her mother, who was inconsolable. "We were known by her name after she shot to fame. She was only 11 then," she said softly, with quiet pride.
Her father said Suhani was ambitious and had a zest for life. “While undergoing treatment, she kept asking when she’d be able to return home,” he said, adding her death had left her family and friends in deep shock. “She was a brilliant and bubbly child, and wanted to excel in life and make a name for herself in acting,” he said, his eyes welling up.
