Water released into canals after Sirsa farmers approach Irrigation Dept
Farmers from three villages in Haryana, led by Haryana Kisan Manch president Gurdeep Singh Jhiri, visited the Irrigation Department to apprise the officials of the lack of water in the Baragudha and Shekhupuria canals. For days, crops were affected due to the absence of timely irrigation.
The farmers met department officials, including the Executive Engineer (XEN) and the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), to push for urgent action. After a detailed discussion, the officials agreed to release water into both the canals. Upon checking with farmers in the villages, it was confirmed that water had reached the canals, much to their relief.
Jhiri highlighted that this issue has occurred before, causing stress among farmers as their crops rely heavily on canal water. In the past, protests by the manch had also led to resolutions. He thanked the officials for their swift action but urged the government to ensure a regular water supply to prevent future losses.
Farmers, including Gurbaj Singh, Bikkar Singh and Jasbir Singh, expressed gratitude while stressing the need for a long-term solution. Their united efforts have, once again, safeguarded their crops and livelihoods.
