The waterlogged Khanori underpass near Kaithal that cost crores to The Railways is proving a bane of commuters these days. With the onset of monsoon, waterlogging of the underpasses has become a regular feature, inconveniencing commuters. Sinking of the middle portion of the underpass due to the faulty design has led to prolonged waterlogging during rain. The railway authorities have been indifferent to the plight of people as well as motorists crossing the faulty underpass. Action should be taken against the officials concerned and contractors responsible for building the underpass.

Stray animals roaming on roads pose a threat

The stray animal menace on the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway is posing a grave threat to commuters, besides risking the lives of the stray animals. While the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been making efforts to curb the road accidents by closing unauthorised cuts near business establishments, it seems not much attention is being paid towards the stray animal running on the national highway. Sometimes the animals appear all of a sudden, jeopardising the lives of commuters. The NHAI and the district authorities concerned should take effective steps to ensure that the animals don’t stray on the roads.

Bill blues for Karnal resident

UHBVN Limited has stopped accepting cash payments for electricity bills. They do not accept cheques either. So the choice available is either to go to a bank and get a demand draft made and then go to the electricity office to deposit the draft, or an online payment. I did try online payment on July 22, at the site of the nigam. While the deduction was made from my credit card (roughly Rs 41,000), neither a receipt was generated, nor was the amount reflected as paid on the online portal. Despite my representations to the local SDO and my mails to the head office, I am yet to be provided with a creditable solution for the fiasco.
