As a heavy downpour brought Gurugram to a grinding halt on Wednesday, the city once again presented a picture of civic infrastructure failure. The videos of waterlogged streets, stranded school buses and people falling off bikes on potholed roads took the social media by storm.

Former minister and ticket aspirant from Badshahpur, Rao Narbir blamed the officials. “They are in connivance with contractors and the corrupt people. They have not been doing their duty for the last five years and only spending several crores of people’s money,” he said, as people thronged his home with complaints.

The worst hit were school children, since many buses and school vans were stuck for over three hours on key routes like Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road, MG Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and the NH-44.
