Deputy Commissioner Virender Kumar Dahiya had given strict instructions to private company L&T to clean the drains along the NH-44 and had also sought a report on the drainage system. However, heavy rain yesterday dashed to the ground the authorities’ claims of monsoon preparedness. A long traffic jam was witnessed on the NH-44 which continued till late night.
In Sonepat too, city residents and commuters had to face a lot of problems due to heavy rain as many areas were waterlogged.
Several residential areas like Sector 14 and 15, Old DC Road, Shani Temple area, Kakroi Chowk, Geeta Bhawan Chowk, bus stand were among the places that were affected.
Sahil Gupta, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation (MC), Panipat, along with other officials, today carried out an inspection of the waterlogged areas and reviewed the cleaning of the drains along the NH-44, Model Town and other areas in the city and prepared a report of the vulnerable points. A detailed report has also been sent to DC Dahiya about the cleaning of the drains by the L&T company.
The Commissioner said directions were issued to L&T for proper cleaning of the drain near Khadi Ashram on the NH-44. No official of the company was found at these waterlogged points. “The water was drained out from the main highway with the help of pumps,” he said. MC officials were directed to cover all main sewerage holes on priority to avert any unfortunate incident in the city, said the Commissioner.
