Continuous rainfall over the past seven days has caused severe waterlogging in Bhuna town of Fatehabad district. Flooded streets and alleys have made movement impossible, with no significant administrative solution in sight. On Thursday, nearly 40 families from Ward 11, Model Town and Chandan Nagar were forced to leave their homes and go to makeshift shelters.
Local civil society groups have stepped in to provide emergency support. Volunteers from Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Guru Ravidas Mandir Seva Samiti have been distributing food and drinking water.
Key roads like the Sirsa-Chandigarh road and Bhuna-Hisar road remain submerged. Local shopkeepers report major losses as standing water threatens to destroy merchandise. “It’s been a week and we’re yet to see real action,” said shopkeeper Devi Lal Sharma.
The situation has also disrupted banking services. Water has entered shops and buildings near Vishwakarma Dharamshala and Punjab National Bank, shutting down operations. Major banks on Hisar Road have been inaccessible to both staff and customers.
Local resident Parsottam Das from Ganesh Colony warned of possible disease outbreaks if the situation is not controlled soon. Residents such as Sampat Singh, Ramesh Kumar and Krishan Kumar from Model Town expressed frustration with what they described as a “sluggish” administrative response.
Meanwhile, Fatehabad MLA Balwan Singh Daulatpuria criticised the government’s preparedness in a social media post. He wrote: "No planning, no help -- the same scene every year. First Bhuna, now Ramsara, who’s next? Who will pay for your negligence, Madam Deputy Commissioner -- the entire district?"
Though Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Kaur led a team to inspect the flooded areas late Wednesday evening, visible results have been minimal. 11 tractor-mounted pumps and two electric motors deployed for water drainage have failed to make an impact. Officials admit that more water is flowing in from nearby fields than is being pumped out.
While some relief has been seen in the Nehru Park area, other wards including 11 to 15, Tohana Road and Dhani Sanchla road remain waterlogged. Residents in these colonies are trapped indoors.
