Waterlogging, snarl-ups plague Gurugram after heavy downpour

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday led to problems like waterlogging, traffic congestion and power outages in different areas of the city on Thursday.
Building collapses in Faridabad
A two-storeyed house in Chandpur village in Faridabad collapsed on Thursday. However, no casualty or injury was reported in the incident. No one was in the building when the roofs and walls collapsed. Household items in the building were reported damaged in the incident.
Hour-long blockades

Traffic movement, especially on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway was slow during the peak hours when office-goers got stuck in traffic at several places.
Additionally, areas like Subhash Chowk, Udyog Vihar, Narsinghpur, Rajiv Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road, Railway Road and others were waterlogged.
Power outages were reported in different areas of the city. In the Civil Lines area, there was a long power cut from 3 am to 12.30 pm. Residents of the area continued to register complaints with the Power Department, but did not get any satisfactory reply.
A senior official of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) said there was a fault in the power house due to overloading. However, repairs were made within a few hours.
There was traffic congestion in Old Gurugram areas. Commuters were stuck in traffic jams on roads near the Sadar Bazar, Gurudwara Road and Old Delhi Road. The traffic deadlock continued in this area till afternoon.

A senior traffic police official said traffic snarls were near the Sirhaul border, Rajiv Chowk, Narsinghpur and some other locations in the morning. Teams of the traffic police are on duty to ensure that the traffic movement remains smooth.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department officials said the city recorded at least 10 mm of rainfall in the morning. Light to moderate rain is expected in the next two days.
