Western Yamuna canal front to glow with food, festivity
In a bid to promote tourism, the Western Yamuna canal front here is set to get a street-food hub and a light show.
As per authorities, the move is poised to offer visitors vibrant recreational spaces.
Municipal Commissioner Vaishali Sharma, accompanied by engineers, on Saturday inspected the canal front, directing the officials concerned to prepare a project plan in this regard at the earliest.
She instructed the officials concerned to ensure that vendors’ stalls at the hub followed a uniform and attractive design, and additional features such as fancy LED lighting, gazebos, and selfie points were part of the site.
To ensure quality, she instructed that a consultant be hired for the speedy execution of the project.
Sharma noted that many persons visited the canal front for morning and evening walks.
“With the light show and food hub, the site will be developed into an entertainment hotspot, offering delicious cuisines and a scenic experience, boosting tourism in Karnal,” she said.
The Commissioner also inspected the under-construction vending zone behind the old bus stand.
She reviewed progress, instructing the agency concerned to expedite work to ensure that vendors can shifted there soon. She directed the officials concerned to ensure the installation of high-mast lights, streetlights, toilets, boundary railings, and two entry gates with ‘vending zone’ LED boards.
Later, she inspected the commercial space project at the old grain market, where work on the double basements, ground floor, and the first floor has been completed, and work on the second floor is underway.
She inspected the construction materials here, and instructed engineers to ensure quality through regular sampling and strength tests.
Sharma took stock of the cleanliness situation at the Karna park, and found that vendors of fast-food stalls outside the park were still dumping waste recklessly.
She directed the Chief Sanitation Inspector to issue notices to all such vendors, warning that repeated violations would result in stalls being removed. Also, she instructed the agency concerned to deploy 24-hour security to maintain safety at the park.
