THE much-awaited redevelopment work of the Chandigarh railway station (having entries from both Chandigarh and Panchkula side) as a world-class one seems to be running behind its last revised target of May-2025. The key area of concern is the non-restoration of escalators at the six platforms here, which forces luggage-carrying senior citizens, women and children to use the foot-overbridges, much to their discomfiture. The authorities concerned must ensure that work is finished by the deadline. —SK Gupta, Panchkula

threat to commuters

AN uncovered filthy drain near Silani Gate in Jhajjar has been posing a significant threat to residents, especially pedestrians. Recently, a man fell into it. He was quickly rescued by a passerby, preventing a disaster. The drain has been unattended for a long time. It is neither cleaned regularly nor covered. The MC authorities should not only cover the drain immediately but also ensure its regular maintenance. —Narendra Kaushik, Jhajjar
