What our readers say: Sanitation goes for a toss in Panchkula

The photograph captured adjacent to the widely used road connecting Sector 20 with Sector 21 of Panchkula reveals poor sanitary conditions prevailing here. Some errant residents and other chronic defaulters refuse to use their civic sense and dump anything and everything which might have become redundant and useless for them at this open public space. Since the old habits die hard, city’s civic body should take some appropriate action against all those responsible for creating such a messy situation here.

Nomadic community needs uplift

The nomadic community, which played a significant role in the country’s independence, has faced prolonged neglect and marginalisation. This has resulted in their weak social, economic and educational status. Efforts for their uplift are crucial to ensure their rights and promote an equal society. The community is deprived of education, health and employment opportunities, which is required for political participation to secure its rights. The government should implement effective policies for the community, including special reservations, housing, education and health facilities.
