What our readers say: Signboards cause traffic snarls

A major reason for frequent jams in markets is the placement of signboards by shopkeepers outside their shops, which occupy a lot of space on footpaths, leading to the blockade of main roads. Whenever any drive by Nagar Parishad is conducted, shopkeepers simply slide these signboards inside their shops. Besides, people coming to the markets park their cars and two-wheelers in front of the shops for hours, resulting in traffic jams. The authorities concerned should remove such boards and take strict action against shopkeepers encroaching the roads.

Theft incidents on rise

IN Ansal Town (Sector 20) of Jagadhri, no boundary wall has been constructed by the Ansal Housing and Construction Limited. There are five open entry points through which any anti-social element can enter the township easily. On December 5, a theft incident was reported in Durga Mandir situated inside the township. Another incident was reported last month at a paper mill in Suncity Project, where jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and other costly items were stolen by thieves. Nearly 300 families reside in this township, but police verification of tenants has not been done. Eighty per cent of security cameras in the area are lying defunct for several months. Repeated requests for the construction of a boundary wall, repair of cameras and proper security system to the management of the township and its maintenance agency (SEMS) have been made, but to no avail.

Violations causing traffic jams

THE violation of traffic rules is causing traffic jams and accidents in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. A number of people can be seen driving their vehicles on the wrong side of roads. The movement of vehicles on the wrong side has become the order of the day at various locations in the twin cities. The traffic police should take strict action against the violators.
