IT is a very common practice for the staff of food storage godowns of government agencies to sprinkle water on stacks of wheat to increase its weight. Due to this unethical practice, entire wheat stocks can get infected with fungus, rendering the grain unfit for human consumption. The staff, when caught, start giving vague explanations to cover up their corrupt practices. Recently, this was spotted in some godowns in Jind and Kaithal. Serious action must be taken against the culprits, who deliberately damage precious food grains.

No ERM and ETS machines in tehsil offices

THE state government should look into installing electronic rover machines (ERMs) and electronic total station (ETS) machines in tehsils and sub-tehsils across the state for the computerised measurement of agricultural and non-agricultural land. In the absence of these, revenue officers entasked with measuring land bring along private parties to conduct computerised marking with the help of their electronic machines, for which applicants are forced to pay Rs 15,000-35,000 to private machine owners, in addition to the government fee. ERMs and ETS machines must be made available at the earliest for land measurement in tehsils across the state, and the work of demarcation of land must only be done by government electronic machines so that people are only charged the prescribed government fee.
