Where were MLAs, MP when Gurugram was drowning, asks Congress
While MP Rao Inderjit Singh is reviewing delay in infrastructure upgrade in Gurugram and pulling up local authorities, the Congress has accused the six-time MP and local MLAs of indifference.
Senior Congress leader and former minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav said before posing questions to officials, Rao needed to explain the mess Gurugram got into while he himself had been representing it for six terms. He also asked the MLAs to take responsibility for the mess.
“It's strange that when the city was drowning, neither the MP concerned nor the MLAs cared to step out. After the mess, everybody is blaming officials. The MP has been here and has seen the city deteriorating. Local MLA Rao Narbir too has been minister and MLA for repeated terms. MLA Mukesh Sharma based an entire manifesto on sanitation and waterlogging, but what happened? These people should be held accountable and tell people what they have done for Gurugram,” said Yadav, while meeting a group of residents.
Yadav said while the BJP government and local representatives had been on an inauguration spree, a majority of projects had yet to start.
“The Metro is the best example of the crises the city is in. It was brought to Gurugram during the Congress’s regime and has not inched forward under BJP rule. It is surprising that they continued to sit on the project even a year after the PM laid the foundation stone, which increased the construction cost. Their own MP and union minister is seeking an inquiry. We made Gurugram the Millennium City, but the BJP destroyed it,” Yadav alleged.
The Congress, following the district-level organisation, has been targeting the incumbent government over several issues ailing Gurugram.
Yadav, a strong contender for state presidency, and two district presidents, have been visiting key areas and running campaigns to draw the attention of the MLAs and MP to the crises.
“Where are the MLAs hiding? Mukesh Sharma had announced that the city would be clean within 100 days. It has been months now and the sanitation crises have deepened. Minister Rao Narbir’s constituency, Badshahpur, has been the worst-hit, but has he cared to step out in the rain and see what people go through? We will be launching an indefinite fast in this regard,” said local Congress president (urban) Pankaj Dawar.
