A ‘will’ and a ‘final note’ were recovered from the residence of Y Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, who was found dead with a gunshot wound at his Sector 11, Chandigarh, house this afternoon.

Confirming the incident, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said information about the reported suicide was received at around 1.30 pm at Police Station 11. “On receiving the information, the police staff and senior officers of Chandigarh Police immediately reached the spot,” she said.

“The body of the deceased was found in a basement room of the house with a gunshot injury. The CFSL team was called to the scene, and the entire area was videographed and photographed. Physical and electronic evidence, including the weapon used, was seized from the spot,” the SSP added.

The ‘will’ and ‘final note’ have been taken into custody along with other material evidence. The body has been taken for the post-mortem examination.

“The wife of the deceased is expected to return from her official visit on October 8, after which the post-mortem will be conducted by a board of doctors,” SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said, adding that further investigation is underway.
