Former Deputy CM and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala has termed the removal of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak’s A NAAC rating as an extremely serious matter.

Saying that the students were kept in the dark, he told the media during a public outreach programme here that the loss of accreditation would negatively impact the higher education prospects and careers of thousands of students.

He said political interference had deteriorated the standards of several universities in the state, including the MDU.

Dushyant said the NAAC rating was withdrawn in November 2024. As per norms, an inspection was required during the current session to renew the accreditation, but the university administration failed to conduct it due to negligence. He said strict action should be taken against the Vice-Chancellor and other officials.

He alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, in an attempt to please his political masters, had avoided the inspection so that a decline in the university’s rating during his tenure would not come to light. He further alleged that the VC's own degree was under scrutiny, with the police and Kurukshetra University currently investigating the matter.

Chautala said INSO, the student wing of the JJP, would raise the issue, and the Governor would be requested to take cognisance of the matter in his capacity as Chancellor.

Meanwhile, speaking on the death of two basketball players recently, Chautala said the tragic incident had occurred due to poor maintenance of stadiums. He demanded that all old sports complexes and equipment be immediately repaired.
