Gurugram, July 12

A 40-year-old woman died due to electrocution from high-voltage electrical wires, while her son and sister-in-law, who came to save her, sustained serious burn injuries in Bhawani Enclave on Friday morning. The injured were referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Sunita, a native of Bihar who lived with her family in a rented house in Bhawani Enclave. The incident took place around 6.45 am when Sunita was cleaning the house. While moving an iron cot out of the room and onto the balcony on the first floor, the cot touched high-voltage electrical wires passing nearby, causing her to be electrocuted. She died on the spot. Upon hearing Sunita’s screams, her son Sittu (18) and sister-in-law Subhanti (23) ran to the balcony to help her, but were also electrocuted and sustained burn injuries.

Area residents gathered at the scene and cut the power.

After receiving information, a police team arrived at the scene. The family members of the deceased said Sunita was busy cleaning the house in preparation for her daughter’s engagement on Sunday.

“It was an unfortunate incident when the cot touched high-voltage wires. We have kept the woman’s body in the mortuary, and a postmortem will be conducted tomorrow. ,” said Inspector Rambir Singh, SHO of Sector 9A police station.
