The police have arrested the woman who allegedly made repeated extortion calls to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohan Lal Badoli, demanding Rs 50 lakh to withdraw a rape case registered against him.
The accused, identified as Meeru, was caught at Kalka railway station today after arriving from New Delhi.
According to the police, Meeru is a close associate of the rape accuser, who is still absconding, and is believed to have played a key role in the extortion plot. Police sources revealed that she was in constant touch with the main accused and actively coordinated the threats.
Following her arrest, Meeru was remanded to two-day police custody. Meanwhile, the remand of Amit Bindal, another accused, who was arrested on Wednesday, has been extended by two more days for further interrogation.
Investigators have decided to submit Meeru’s voice samples on Friday for forensic testing, which will help establish her role in the case. The police are also continuing their search for the rape accuser, along with two other suspects whose involvement is under investigation. With three arrests made so far, authorities are tightening the noose around the extortion gang.
