Woman murdered; husband, father-in-law taken into custody

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband and father-in-law at her house in Sector 7 here today.
A mother of two children, the deceased, Amita Devi, had been living with her husband Mukul Mathur and her in-laws. It has been alleged that the woman’s father-in-law, Devendra (59), thrashed her with sticks, and later strangulated her to death with a polythene and dupatta.
A police spokesperson said Devendra confessed to having committed the crime along with Mukul. After killing Amita, he called the police and informed the officials about the murder.
New Colony police station SHO Rajesh Bagdi said upon receiving information, the police reached the spot and took the body into custody, following which it was sent to the district Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police had detained Mukul and his father, he said. The SHO said the exact reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained by the officials, adding that the investigation was underway.
The police will also record the statement of Amita’s parents to find out if there was any marital dispute between the victim and her husband. — TNS
