The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra Police has arrested a woman in connection with the murder case of Narata Ram, whose body was recovered from a box in his house on December 7 in Shahabad.
The accused woman has been identified as Jyoti, alias Himachali Devi, a resident of Jalandhar.
A Kurukshetra Police spokesman said, “A missing complaint of Narata Ram, a retired railway employee, was registered on June 3, 2024. The deceased’s son Rakesh had stated that his father was living with a woman in Amar Colony of Shahabad, after his second wife left him, but he had gone missing.
During investigation, the CIA-2 came to know about Jyoti, alias Himachali Devi. However, she had already been arrested by the Punjab police in another murder case and the Kurukshetra police brought her on production warrant. She was produced before a court which sent her to eight-day police remand during which a mobile phone of the deceased was recovered.
CIA-2 in-charge Mohan Lal said, “The accused woman had read a matrimonial advertisement given by Narata Ram in a newspaper, she approached the victim and married him. On the day of murder, she had given Narata Ram an overdose of intoxicating tablets and fled to Punjab after stuffing his body in a box in the house”.
The police said she took away his mobile phone and made purchases worth Rs 3 lakh. The accused used to target men after seeing matrimonial advertisements and also used to keep intoxicating tablets with her. She was facing a similar case in Jalandhar, Punjab, and another similar matter in Uttar Pradesh, but the UP man had survived, thoe police further said.
