Woman’s ‘death’ undone in Yamunanagar
After a long struggle, Sameena, who lives in a rented room in Dayalgarh village of the district, has proved herself ‘alive’ in official documents.
Hatching a conspiracy, her former husband, Liaquat Ali, and former father-in-law, Yusuf, had got her name removed from the government family ID (Parivar Pehchan Patra) database on the basis of a fake death certificate, allegedly prepared in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh in 2023. After the strange matter was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta, her name was re-entered in the family ID database. After getting information in this regard, the DC instructed officials of the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s office to investigate the matter.
Officials of the ADC’s office then went to Sameena’s residence in Dayalgarh village, and found that Sameena, marked ‘dead’ in the family ID database, was, in fact, alive.
According to the woman, her former father-in-law had conspired to have her name deleted from the family ID database to prevent her from getting ration from government-run depots. “I had constantly been trying to prove myself alive. My former father-in-law, Yusuf, and my former husband, Liaquat Ali, had hatched the conspiracy. They produced a fake death certificate to get my name stuck from the family ID database,” Sameena said.
She thanked the Deputy Commissioner for helping her, and said her ex-husband had “divorced” her though triple-talaq. She came to know about her being marked ‘dead’ in the official database in 2024, when she went to a bank to get her daughter’s account opened. “Strict legal action will be taken against those who produce fake documents before officials,” the DC said.
