Hisar, December 1
In a suspected case of honour killing, the police retrieved the half-burnt body of a woman from a pyre at the cremation ground in Dhangar village of Fatehabad district today.
Sources said the 21-year-old victim, Siksha, had married a youth of the same village, Anoop Kumar, against the wishes of her family around a year ago. She had got a job at a private company in Chandigarh after which the couple shifted to the city. Siksha, however, told her mother about the marriage three days ago over phone after which she asked her to return home and assured her that their marriage would be solemnised as per rituals.
However, when they returned to their respective families, Anoop reportedly received a call from a woman, saying that his wife had died and her family was performing the last rites at the cremation ground.
Anoop approached the police, suspecting that Siksha’s family had killed her for marrying against their wish. The police, along with the fire brigade and forensic experts, rushed to the cremation ground and exhumed the body from the pyre in half-burnt condition.
A case under Sections 302, 201, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against the woman’s mother, father Mahender Singh, uncles Sunder, Kalu, Atmaram and four others. SP Surender Singh Bhoria said the police had shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of her death. — TNS
