Panipat, October 14
Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) chairperson Preeti Bhardwaj today visited Panipat to enquire about a woman held captive in toilet in Rishpur village of the district.
She interacted with the victim who was living at Kiwana village in Samalkha with her relatives.
Besides, the police today took the woman to the general hospital again for treatment. The police have nabbed the woman’s husband Naresh Kumar and produced him in the court today and the court has released him on bail.
Bhardwaj along with Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Padma Rani, district Women Protection Officer Rajni Gupta visited Kiwana village and interacted with the woman, identified as Ramrati, who was rescued by the protection officer on Tuesday after a tip-off.
The woman was held captive in the toilet by her husband for the past three years. Bhardwaj said it was an unfortunate incident.
“I also met her three children and tried to counsel them but they didn’t even take care of their mother,” Gupta said, adding: “She couldn’t even walk properly as she had been held captive in a small toilet for a long time. She seems to be mentally unstable due to the torture she suffered.”
She said she had asked the CWC chairperson to counsel her three children.
“I have also directed authorities concerned to provide medical assistance to the victim,” she added.
Sanoli SHO Surender Dahiya said the accused was arrested late on Tuesday night and produced in a court, which released him on bail. — TNS
