“Porta cabins will provide women self-help groups a permanent place for their work, which will increase their income. Ten porta cabins will be given to the self-help groups of the municipal corporation area. The interested self-help groups will have to apply within 10 days with the municipal corporation,” said Mayor Suman Bahamani.

She said the NULM ran various schemes to empower the urban poor, especially women. “There are 10 to 20 women in a self-help group. Porta cabins provide a place for various business activities and this will give women a safe and permanent place to set up and run their businesses. The Mayor further said porta cabins, which would be set up at Sanjha Bazaar, would be made available to the women of self-help groups at a nominal rent, so that the activities, income and participation of the women self-help groups could be increased.

She appealed to the women self-help groups to come to room number 3 of the municipal corporation office located at Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk within 10 days and apply for the porta cabin. She said by getting porta cabins, they could make themselves empowered and self-reliant by doing better business.
