Women’s basketball championship opens at KU
Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva has said sports competitions promote integral life values like teamwork and discipline.
He was speaking at the inaugural day of the North Zone and All-India Inter-University Basketball (Women’s) Championships as the chief guest.
While the North Zone championship will be held from February 24 to March 1, the All-India championship will be held from March 3 to 8 at the Kurukshetra University Sports Complex.
The VC said sports competition not only provided a platform to enhance sports skills of players, but also promoted integral life values like teamwork, discipline and hard work in sportspersons.
Sports also led to physical and mental development, he added. Sachdeva said, “Basketball is not just a game, but the art of cooperation, strategy and quick decision making. This teaches us how important it is to maintain patience and confidence even in difficult situations.”
He motivated the participants, and said every team participating in this tournament had worked hard and their presence itself was a proof of their commitment and excellence.
Sachdeva, while highlighting the sports achievements and facilities of the university, said the university was constantly setting new records and performing brilliantly in various sports events.
Director (Sports) Dinesh Rana said a total of 40 women’s teams were participating in the competition.
Dean (Student Welfare) AR Chaudhri, Chairman of Sports Council Dr Ashok Chaudhary and several other officials were present during the inaugural ceremony.
