Karnal, August 8
Bidders have finally come forward for the eight development works of the Karnal Smart City project, the work for which has been allotted to different agencies.
The work on the projects is likely to start by August-end. A sum of Rs 197.53 crore will be spent on these projects.
The administration authorities said these projects would help in strengthening the sports infrastructure in the city, along with providing offices to various departments, which are at present being run in condemned buildings.
A 2-acre indoor sports complex is being constructed in Sector 32 at a cost of Rs 37.44 crore.
The construction of new buildings for various departments and commercial shops will also be undertaken at the site of the condemned buildings in Shakti Colony under mixed-used development projects at the cost of Rs 106.97 crore.
These are among the major projects, works of which have been allotted recently.
The indoor sports complex will include an Olympics-size all-weather swimming pool, warm up pool, instructor room, medical room, reception, halls for karate and table tennis.
“A badminton hall will be on the ground floor while a squash hall, yoga hall, cafe, gym and spectator seating will be on the first floor,” said Anish Yadav, Deputy Commissioner-cum-CEO, Karnal Smart City Limited (KSCL).
Besides, the redevelopment of the Karna stadium will also be done in two phases.
In the first phase, a stage building, tennis building, separate hostel blocks for boys and girls, multipurpose hall and a seating area for the public will be constructed at the cost of Rs 23.95 crore.
“In the second phase, a building of four floors with the provision of fencing hall, gymnastic hall, and other facilities will be provided at the cost of Rs 12.59 crore,” the DC said.
In around 8.5 acres, there are eight buildings, where various departments are working. These include the old building of the Karnal Municipal Corporation (MC), Women and Child Welfare Department, hydrology office, mahila ashram, residence quarters, observation centre, Bal Vikas Godown and Zila Viklang Kalyan Kendra.
The old buildings will be demolished. It its place, vertical office buildings and commercial shops will be constructed, which will help in re-densification of one of the prime locations.
A provision of government quarters would increase the livability of the staff on the premises, the MC authorities said, adding that this would create job opportunities and office spaces for the residents of Karnal.
An amount of Rs 3.23 crore has been approved for the second phase of the redevelopment of Karna Lake. “It will help in retaining the old essence of the site and make it modern and more lively, the MC said.
“A modern record room will also be constructed at the cost of Rs 4.63 crore on the premises of the mini secretariat, while the renovation of two police stations – Sadar and Civil Lines — will be done at the cost of Rs 4.46 crores,” the DC added.
