He said, “There had been no appointments in the past 11 years. To strengthen the party’s base, give a boost to good party workers and leaders, who have been working at the grassroots level and form the District Congress Committee and subsequently the block, mandal and booth level units, Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan has been launched. In Ambala, three district congress committee presidents will be appointed. Executive committees and political affairs committee will also be formed. The prime objective behind the exercise is to give responsibility to maximum people in the party organisation, so that they play an important role in strengthening the Congress and in elections.”

Singla called upon party workers to share their views on the political scenario in Ambala and how the situation can be improved. He assured party workers that discussion between them would remain confidential.

He said while making appointment, the party would focus on various factors, including experience, work done in field for the party, dedication and loyalty.

Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry, Ambala City MLA Nirmal Singh, Naraingarh MLA Shalley Chaudhary, Parvinder Pari, Himmat Singh, Chetan Chauhan, Venu Aggarwal and several Congress leaders were present during the meeting.

After the district-level meeting, the party will now hold block-wise meetings to gather feedback and opinions from party workers. On June 9, block-level meetings will be held in Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment. On June 10, party meetings will be held in Mullana and Naraingarh.

Speaking to The Tribune, Singla said, “We can’t change the structure as it has already been approved by the PCC and the AICC in previous years. Appointments will be made according to the structure only. A meeting has been held in this regard. Now, block-wise meetings will be held with party workers and leaders for appointments.”

The Congress leaders said Ambala was the only district in the state to have three posts of district presidents.

Congress leader Himmat Singh said, “Formation of the party organisation has been a long-pending demand. The party has started the exercise. The AICC observer will hold a direct dialogue with party workers and leaders. The feedback and opinion from grassroots level will be heard during block-level meetings. We are hopeful that committees will be formed soon.”
