Karnal: The Department of Botany at the KVA DAV College for Women, Karnal, organised a two-day inter-college workshop for women on the topic ‘Techniques in horticulture’. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Horticulture Training Institute, Uchani, Karnal. Pahup Singh, Former DHO and training officer and Ritu Sharma, training officer, enlightened the participants regarding the multiple procedures that allowed ample participation of women in agricultural practices. They conveyed that this would optimise the use of human resource and bring unprecedented benefits to the individuals as well as the nation. Principal Sujata Gupta accorded a green welcome to the guests by presenting saplings. In her address, she encouraged the participants of the workshop to avail such opportunities and garner skills.
‘Milan’ event in Kurukshetra school
Kurukshetra: Students of Government Senior Secondary School, Ismailabad, visited Manish Papneja Memorial Public School, Ismailabad, as per a ‘milan programme’ started by the government. Through the programme, the government school students interact with students of private schools and share experiences with each other. The students were welcomed by the school management and Principal Rachna Batra. The students participated in numerous activities like dance, music, art and craft, etc. They visited different labs and library of the school.
Faculty development programme
Hisar: A one-week faculty development programme on ‘Emerging trends in machine learning technologies’ was inaugurated by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. Vice Chancellor Tankeshwar Kumar was the chief guest at the inaugural function and highlighted the importance of machine learning in today’s world and encouraged participants to make the best use of the six-day event. Prof Kuldeep from NIT-Jalandhar was present as the invited speaker. Prof Vishal Goyal from Punjabi University, Patiala, presented his talk on data ethics.
63 students qualify CTET
Jhajjar: As many as 63 students of Prarambh, a state institute of advanced studies in teachers’ education, qualified the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) last month. Dr Lokendra Kumar Ojha, an official with Prarambh, said 97 students of the institute had taken level- 1 and 2 exams. In all, 27 of 45 students in level-1 and 36 out of 52 students in level-2 qualified the exams. “It’s a great achievement of the institute in a situation when the pass percentage of the candidates of the State Board of Education and Central Secondary Education is around 10 per cent,” Ojha said.
Students shine in Taekwando meet
Karnal: Students of Mount Litera Zee School, Karnal, bagged positions in the 2nd Goodwill Cup National Taekwondo Championship organised by the Champions Academy of Taekwondo at MM International School, Karnal. Around 79 students participated and bagged various positions. In all, 12 students stood first and got gold medals, 13 students acquired silver medals, 28 students stood third and attained a bronze medal.
Workshop on printing, design
Faridabad: The JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, will soon have an advanced laboratory on 3-D printing technology to enable students have experiential learning in 3-D modelling, build-setup preparation and applications of 3-D printing. VC Dinesh Kumar said 3-D printers were being used in a wide range of fields, including medical to high-end engineering industries. “Therefore, the technology holds potential not only for engineering students, but also for those are in other fields. 3D printing technology helps in evaluating the ideas and can design quickly whatever students visualise through practice,” he said. Prof PM Pandey from IIT-Delhi, the chief guest at the occasion highlighted the usage of 3-D printing in different fields and asked the students to not to be restricted with their ideas but also try to convert them into reality.
Students perform ‘Hawan’
Ambala: To seek blessings of the Almighty, a hawan ceremony was organised at SD Vidya School. Students, along with teachers, came early in the morning to attend the hawan. The whole atmosphere was filled with the smell of incense sticks and resonated with the chanting of mantras. Director Principal Neelinderjeet Kaur Sandhu blessed the students and motivated them to study hard.
