Ambala, December 12
In a strange case, a wrong inmate was released on bail from Ambala Central Jail.
The matter came to light, after a family approached Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij at his residence today and alleged that instead of Tarsem Lal, a resident of Balana Village, Sukhdeep Singh, of Patiala, was released from the jail.
Ram Kumar, kin of Tarsem Lal, said: “Tarsem was in jail in connection with a petty case and on December 4, we got his bail application approved. I reached Central Jail to receive Tarsem, and kept waiting for him but Tarsem didn’t come out. Later when I inquired, I was told by the jail staff that Tarsem has already left. I kept searching for him. We thought that he may have gone somewhere else. But a couple of days later, we came to know that Tarsem is being produced before a court in some other case.”
As per information, on December 6, a case was registered at Baldev Nagar police station against Tarsem and Sukhdeep Singh. As per the complaint, Tarsem was in Jail since November 17 and Sukhdeep was in jail since November 15. They were sharing the same barrack. On December 4, Tarsem got bail but he, along with Sukhdeep, hatched a conspiracy in which Tarsem shared all his personal details with Sukhdeep, who impersonated himself as Tarsem before the jail officials and managed to go out of the jail on the bail orders of Tarsem.
The Superintendent of Ambala Central Jail, Satvinder Godara, said we have requested Ambala SP to arrest Sukhdeep who got released.
Home Minister Anil Vij said “I have asked DG (Prisons) to get the matter investigate and take strict action against erring officials.”
