The district administration has started making preparations to facilitate the upcoming Kanwar Yatra .
Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the district with an aim to avert any possible untoward incident during Kanwar Yatra. He also ordered closing down of timber markets (lakkar mandis), situated in Mandauli and Manakpur villages of the district.

According to the information, the order to close down the wood markets has been issued, because hundreds of tractor-trailers loaded with poplar wood come to Yamunanagar from Uttar Pradesh using Yamunanagar-Saharanpur route every day.
This Yamunanagar-Saharanpur route is used by most of the Kanwariyas to go to Haridwar to collect water from Ganga to offer it at Shiva temples in their villages or in their areas on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. The DC also issued directions to set up community kitchens 100-ft away from the earmarked roads, so that no persons assembled on the roads.
The district police have also asked the Kanwariyas to submit their personal details at their respective police stations to keep a better track of the pilgrims in case of a mishap or an emergency. Besides, CCTV cameras are being installed at key points and a traffic diversion plan is also being made.
The Kanwar Yatra is scheduled to be held from July 14 this year after a gap of two years due to the Covid pandemic. DC Parth Gupta said the Section 144 of the CrPC had been imposed upto July 26, till the conclusion of the Kanwar Yatra. He further said the timber markets would also remain closed upto July 26.
According to the information, police officials of Yamunanagar district and Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh held a joint meeting on the premises of the police post, Shahjahanpur of Saharanpur district on Thursday.
Several issues, including the issue of traffic diversion, were discussed at the said meeting.
Chamkaur Singh, police spokesperson, Yamunanagar district, said on the direction of the Superintendent of Police Mohit Handa, elaborate security arrangements were being made for the Kanwar Yatra.
“The district police are fully prepared. Security and traffic arrangements are being made”, the police spokesperson.
